I arrive in Alamogordo, New Mexico at around 8 o'clock in the morning
and man alive am I tired, beat, and sleepy.
I still, however, have
enough strength in me to try to get situated. So, I find a place to
stash two of my heavy bags and then take me and my backpack up the
street to look for the public library. Because I am camping, I
figure that I need a public computer for inputting my blog info into.
The nice librarian at the reference desk is kind
enough to give me a map of the city. I am able to get on
a public computer once for one hour every day, which ought to
be enough time to check email and to input for my blog
MOONMALL
* G A D Z O O K S * I discover that most
of the money that I had brought with me is missing. Try as I might,
I cannot find it. - PANIC - I won't be able to purchase a return
Greyhound ticket to get back home with. A word to the wise, don't travel
with cash!
Ok, I get an idea. If I can get a little bit of temporary work through a
temp agency, then I should be able to get enough money to get back with.
So, I look up temp agencies online and find one. I walk down to ITS Quest Inc,
and bad news, the nice lady at the agency says that it would take atleast 2 weeks
before she could get me started because she would need to do a background check
including references. She does, however, direct me to another temp agency which is
not referenced online, Ready Labor. Thankfully this town is small enough such that
one can walk across it in about a half hour. So I walk over to Ready Labor and unfortunately
they only show up at 7:00am in the morning to get everyone started on their temp assignments.
They are gone for the day. The good news is that there are application forms in a cardboard box
with a rock over the forms to keep them from being blown away. I take one with some hope.
Later that day, I find out that there is a WalMart here which is welcome because I don't have
a lot of money at this point and they have some cheap food items.
