I wake up to another not too bad nights sleep. This morning I
eat some bulgar wheat which I had prepared the night before. This food is
good because it is very cheap, very nutritious, and it can be
reconstituted from a dry form with only water, a container, and some
time, no campfire required.
Some urge took me and I felt like checking out NMSU about classes.
I thought about chemistry, math, and business courses. I ran a
website business for a year and a half, but it failed partially due
to ignorance about business practices, including marketing. Also it
was my first experience in running a business
At NMSU, I almost immediately was allowed to talk to a counselor.
I gave her some background, and then she sort of directed me to
the 2 year business degree. I could go part time to start, and then
get a Pell grant. As an out of district student going part time I
would only need to pay $5 more per credit hour. It seems possible. I
didn't say anything, but I wonder if I could challenge some of the basic
and intermediary computer courses, as I have taught myself some stuff
over the years.
After this I walk up the steep hill to the Spaceflight museum. I was
there in 2005, so I won't go into detail about the museum now.
Outside of the museum there was a crew installing a mockup of Space
Ship 1. I joked about stealing the ship, and they said that it was
ok because they were tired of it. But I knew that it really doesn't fly
so I joke about myself not having a chance of flying off into outer space
to hide from the cops.
I went in and asked at the museum store counter if there was a space
interest club in town, such as the Oregon L5 Society in Portland, Oregon.
They
directed me to a man by the name of Mike Smith who was outside of the
Museum. I have a good conversation with Mike about Solar Power Satellites
and the need for Heavy Lift Reusable Launch Vehicles.
I go on a long walk and end up at the Mall on the other side of town.
Unfortunately, it is quite a small mall, but atleast there is a K-Mart
and a Payless Shoesource.
I go on another long walk toward downtown along White Sands Boulevard. Here I
find a thrift shop and go in and buy a white shirt. This shirt is made out of
t-shirt material, has long sleeves, and a collar which I promptly fold up. This
is ideal for keeping the sun off of my skin. It is a good thing that my sunburn
has died down, and that it was only a minor burn to start with.
On another whim, I walk into the Chamber of Commerce, to ask about starting a business
in this town.
Well, the lady that I would
need to ask is actually in a long meeting. I do get some information written down
onto a piece of paper in regards to this. I might pursue it next week after the
Cup.
